Horatian satire sets to make fun of mundane human activities by showing how ridiculous an everyday activity can be. This sort of satire is light in tone and made so that average people can understand and empathize with.

Examples of Horatian Satire: 

  1. Gulliver’s Travels, film/book

Mocks and satirizes aspects of English society. As Gulliver travels he sees different ways that the English people live and pokes fun at them.

 2. Monty Python and the Holy Grail, film

Makes fun of how the Knights of King Arthur are supposed to be courageous and fearless but instead they run away from fights and conflicts.

   3. Saturday Night Live, TV show

Makes fun of political current events through comedy skits that understate the seriousness of the subject.

    4. Step Brothers, film

The main characters face challenges that are hilariously portrayed but hold some degree of truthfulness that many people can understand such as dealing with siblings or finding a job.
