Definition: An exaggerated, comedic scene that uses slapstick humor to causes a plot twist at a random event and is something that is improbable.

In a Sentence: The movie was a complete farce, showing how ridiculous the actors viewed politics.

Examples of Farce:

  1. The Three Stooges

The Three Stooges is a famous example of a movie with farce in it because there are many scenes with slapstick comedy. The part where the octopus is thrown at the bystander’s face and then it jumps off right before the man gets whacked in the face with a shovel is a great example of farce because it is very unlikely that would happen. The three stooges has a lot of farce in it.

2. Tom and Jerry

Tom and Jerry is a good example of farce in the scene where Tom has a boxing glove and tries to punch whatever is going to come out of the box but it turns out that a boxing glove smacks him in the face which stuns him and Jerry was behind this attack and it’s a good example of farce because it uses slapstick humor and it was a plot twist because the person watching was expecting Jerry to get smacked but Tom gets hit instead.

3. Happy Gilmore

Happy Gilmore is a good example of farce in its scene when he is playing hockey. He is sliding around the court doing everything wrong and being very clumsy. Doing these things and being clumsy is what farce is all about. A sentence about this scene would be when “In Happy Gilmore the hockey scene was very farce.”

4. Home Alone

Home Alone is a good example of Farce comedy because it uses a lot of physical comedy. The movie puts real people in unusual and improbable situations. All of the interactions between the 8 year old main character and the two burglar characters are highly exaggerated and include lots of unnecessary falling, and  pain without consequence.
